Equity Capital

Permanent capital that has been raised through the sale and issuance of securities that have no right to repayment by the issuing company. This normally takes the form of common stock. Preferred stock is also sometimes regarded as equity capital, although often the company has an obligation to redeem such shares at certain times or under certain conditions.
